The Oroville Dam Crisis Is Not Over- Gov Brown Demonstrates Lack of Concern for Citizen Welfare

The Oroville Dam crisis is a long way from being over. The threat to life and property remains in place regardless of what Gov. Jerry Brown says.

As I reported on 2/14/2017, the National Weather Service is forecasting 7 straight days of rain beginning on February 16th.  This is when the first determination that can be made as whether the Oroville Dam will hold. Incredibly and irresponsibly, the decision to change the evacuation order from “to Reduce Immediate Evacuation Order to Evacuation Warning“.  Some people are reporting that the evacuation order has been lifted, clearly, the reader can see that it has not (see the Butte County Sherrif’s tweet as published on Facebook, below).

No-Show Jerry Brown

Governor Jerry Brown has been a no-show, until February 14, with regard to this crisis, when his Water Reources Department issued a reduction in status to the previous  evacuation order.  This is a face-saving move designed to deflect attention away from the intense pressure generated by Paul Preston and myself on the office of the Governor. Paul Preston and myself have heard that statement multiple times in the last 24 hours.  Previously, Brown stated that he would have no comment on the crisis. Brown took advantage of a couple of sunny days and the resulting slight drop in water levels at the dam to roll back the evacuation order. This move was purely political and has nothing to do with the actual crsisi which will reach a peak this weekend and early next week.

On February 14, the  two articles/podcast I generated drew almost 200,000 views on The Common Sense Show, alone. Paul Preston and I were able to put attention where it belongs, which was squarely on a Governor who could care less about the welfare of 2 million people which could be potentially impacted. You will hear Paul Preston mention the effectiveness of our exposure in the podcast located at the end of the article.

Excerpt From the Butte County Sheriff

Below is an excerpt of a tweet from the Butte County Sheriff regarding the changing status of evacuation order.

For Immediate Release: February 14, 2017
Contact: (530) 871-9440

Butte County Sheriff’s Office to Reduce Immediate Evacuation Order to Evacuation Warning
Due to lower lake levels, further inspections, ongoing work to shore-up the Oroville Dam emergency spillway and updated weather forecasts, effective at 1:00 p.m. today, the Evacuation Order for the Oroville Dam Spillway Incident has been reduced to an Evacuation Warning. Any resident displaced by the evacuation may return home at 1:00 p.m.; however all residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared as conditions can rapidly change. People who have special needs or require extended time to evacuate should consider remaining evacuated.  (EDITOR’S NOTE: THE PREVIOUS SENTENCE INDICATES THAT THIS CRISIS IS NOT OVER).
An Evacuation Warning means the immediate threat has ended but the potential for an emergency remains and therefore residents must remain prepared for the possibility of an Evacuation Order….

The Crisis Is Not Over

KCRA, Channel 3, Sacramento is reporting that although the evacuation order has been reduced in scope, the “Crisis is not over and there are a lot of unkowns”.

The TV report goes on to say that although the water is no longer spilling over the top of the dam, the crisis is not over because of the forecasted storms coming into the Oroville area beginning on February 16th.  If one wants to see how dire the situation is, please click on Channel 3’s link, listed above.
Further, the evacuation for impacted areas related to the failing levees in Sacramento remains in effect. Should the Orovillle dam break, failing levees would greatly exacerbate the crisis for Sacramento and the flood waters could crest as high as 26 feet.

Although the Oroville Dam water levels have subsided by a few inches and the water is no longer spiling over the top of the dam, the spillways remain damaged and it is questionable as to whether they will holdiwth the impending storms.

This is not about being right or wrong with the prediction of an impending catastrophe. This about not gambling with the lives of 2 million people; The prudent thing to do would have consisted of evacuating the region in advance of the approaching storms to see what the dam was ultimately going to do. If Brown’s people have guessed wrong, this could be the worst disaster in American history.  If the dam does hold and the interventions in addressing the failing status of the da,y who are self-evacuating today in advance of the storm. Shouldn’t the government also error on the side of precaution? As Paul Preston put it, “I want to be wrong about my feeling that the dam could fail. If it does fail, I will lose my home and everything that I own”.

Here is my most recent interview with Paul Preston and it is very revealing. Remember, Paul wants to be wrong as do I.  It just seems that Gov. Jerry Brown could care less.

In the following interview, Paul Preston’s volume mysteriously kept dropping.

Lack of common sense prevails, since most people lack brain cells for logical thinking. No one in their right mind would buy property below a dam or in a flood plane or near a fault line. People need to take responsibility for themselves realizing even local government is dysfunctional to allow land to be developed in these dangerous areas, meaning do the research before you buy. Do not trust real estate agents as they lie and deceive many. Only thing they care about is commissions.

Thanks to you and Paul for the coverage and attention you are bringing to this critical event.

I am curious as to why no one appears to be talking about why no water is being discharged through the power generating turbines (this can be determined by the muddy, stagnant water full of debris at the base of the main dam and continuing downstream to the confluence with the main spillway).

Water outflow through the turbines is normally the primary means of water discharge from the reservoir, one of the three ways water is discharged other than through the main and the emergency spillways during excessive reservoir inflow from storms and snow-melt, it seems rather strange that other than one very small mention early on in the crisis that it wasn’t being used do to technical difficulties” no one is addressing this. Was it the primary reason/cause for the dam being allowed to remain at such a high level prior to the arrival of the recent storms that then made use of the main (soon to be damaged) spillway and eventually the emergency spillway necessary?

I am also curious about two comments I read in some other articles about this serious dam event… One was that there had supposedly been repair work done a few years ago to the main spillway in the area that recently blew apart and the other was a question why re-bar was not used in the concrete slabs than make up the spillway surface??

If you or Paul have or can get out info on the above subjects I would appreciate it. Thank you again!

Governor Brown envisions himself as “King” in the event the Calexit movement is successful. He, therefore, is loath to admit that the infrastructure (that ought to have been repaired some 12 years ago) will require federal emergency funding to repair. Brown’s stubbornness (and I am choosing my adjectives carefully with that last word) in failing to request immediate federal assistance following his terrible treatment of President Trump would be laughable in its transparency were it not for the fact that so many people and so much property has been endangered and is at stake. If Brown thinks he can pray for a miracle after his disgraceful duplicity in governing the populace of California, he had better dream on.

Because of the way the evacuation was handled many people left with only the clothes they were wearing. So, during this pause, I can see letting people return to get clothing, valuables, and medications. But, they should be informed that they only have a short time before they will have to leave again. That or they should be told to prepare for evacuation when/if the rains start again.
If this had been handled properly to begin with then people would only have themselves to blame for not being prepared. (living where they do they should be prepared anyway, but normalcy bias is a fact)

The water level at Oroville dam has dropped by 15 feet as of Tuesday afternoon. Water has always been drained by the spillways, main and emergency, it never flowed over the dam. Sacramento is in no danger from the dam or the damaged levee on Tyler Island. Granted, the crisis isn’t over. Our public institutions of sheriff, police, fire, CWS, CHP, repair crews and the wonderful people of the greater Oroville area have conducted themselves with professionalism and discipline. God Bless them all.

It’s 1:35 pm on Wed, 2/15. I just checked Intellicast and looked at Oroville radar. There is a big Doppler pulse going on right now in that very area! The approaching storm is either being ATTRACTED or REPULSED by this manipulation.
I thought you and Paul Preston would like to know this and check it our for yourselves.
The huge Doppler signatures emanating from the Portland and Seattle areas are attracting and “spinning” the storms up in that area.
We, here, in Brookings, OR (Curry County “State of Jefferson”, as you might know it) are currently experiencing heavy rain and wind, as “forecasted” (i.e.”planned”).
Thanks so very much for all you do and please, keep up the updating on this situation for us. You and Jim Stone are the only ones telling it like it is!

  12. Lynne Smith February 15, 2017 at 4:39 pm

4:30 pm. Looking at Intellicast radar now, major storm has been diverted up North.
We, here on S. OR coast, are bearing the brunt of that storm.
    “They” got called out.

California “politicians” want to BS Californians into seceding from the US, They constantly unjustly attack Trump. California politicians are too stupid/inept to even identify/fix the Oroville dam problem documented by others 12 years ago. Are they pathetic or what? Now Brown, Feinstein and Pelosie ASKED Trump for hundrerds of millions in US aid to fix the dam and levees. The same US government they don’t want to be part of. Are they hypocrites or what? Trump has the SOLE Responsibility/Power to approve or deny the request. He could have thrown it in their face and denied it. Instead he graciously approved it only citing that it was an example of our infrastructure needing repair. Don’t look for a THANK YOU from Soclialist “We’re Entitled” California Probably will siphon off most of it for other “We’re Entitled” schemes anyway

  17. Mark Timothy February 15, 2017 at 8:25 pm

If the Feather River Valley was populated entirely by illegal third worlders Gov Brown would be beside himself.

California has plenty of money to invite and take care of Illegal Aliens, but no funding to maintain their own infrastructure.

Hey, Jerry, Stand Below the Dam. Glub, glub !

  22. Laurie February 16, 2017 at 3:43 pm

I’m sure people have also thought about some of the snowpack also adding more than just a few inches of rain. Warmer air, warm rain= melt-off. How much more water will that add to the equation? Wish I could hear info on that.

  23. gene February 17, 2017 at 4:33 am

I think I see chemtrails when I look at the sky ,mostly in the early morning . My questions are Why are the planes around the world doing this ? Who is paying for this, what are they releasing into the air? One third of earths sea life is dead from radioactivity of japans damaged NUCLEAR power plant.. Why is humanity silent about all that is going on .Protesters are called the enemy and Washington is not listening to the people. Death is everywhere wars are not a way of life for anyone .I think 1% bankers will lose money when wars are over but their safety is questionable when the truth gets told !. Goodness will prevail . I thank GOD for almighty mercy.
