Geek Squad’s Incentive to Plant Child Porn- Geeks Are Hired By FBI

The FBI testified against Dr. Mark Rettenmaier who is  facing child pornography charges after Geek Squad technicians supposedly located a photo of a young naked girl on his computer back in 2011. The image was discovered in a section of Rettenmaier’s hard drive where deleted files are stored, This means that the Geek Squad had to purposely go looking for evidence since they were searching in Rettenmaier’s deleted file after he had brought his computer to Best Buy for repairs.

Rettenmaier’s attorney, James Riddet, states that “the FBI was dealing with a paid agent inside the Geek Squad who was used for the specific purpose of searching clients’ computers for child pornography and other contraband or evidence of crimes.” This information was obtained via the Los Angeles Times.

Riddet accuses the FBI of paying at least eight employees at Geek Squad to be “confidential human sources.

The Washington (Com) Post  reported that an FBI agent, Tracey Riley reported that the FBI/Best Buy source was Justin Meade, a supervisor at the Geek Squad maintenance center in Kentucky. Meade notified the FBI after he discovered the porn on Rettenmaier’s computer. Meade was paid $500 by the FBI for turning in Rettenmaier  according to the Los Angeles Times.

This means that Best Buy’s Geek Squad has a built in motive to plant evidence in order to obtain a reward.

Best Buy attempted to excuse their part in violating the 4th Amendment with the following statement:

From time to time, our repair agents discover material that may be child pornography, and we have a legal and moral obligation to turn that material over to law enforcement. We are proud of our policy and share it with our customers before we begin any repair.

That does not mean that Best Buy or the FBI have a right to violate the 4th Amendment. Clearly in this case, the Geek Squad was acting as an agent of the FBI.

Best Buy now has one less customer. How about you?

Over 20 years ago when I was unemployed, Best Buy opened up an account in my name, and even mailed me a store credit card. Then I got a statement in which I supposedly purchased 3 computers for about $5,000. Their loss prevention wasn’t too helpful, but I eventually disputed the charge, and got it taken off my credit report.

Very similar to the “private” firms that search everyone’s belongings (for the government) when you take a Greyhound bus into the state
of FL. It is done precisely to skirt 4th amendment limitations on the government. It is criminal and no one is talking about it!

What incentive does Greyhound have to treat it’s customers like this? The government leaning on them is the answer.

I guess Fast & Furious was moral too along with the drug and human trafficking our intelligence agencies participate in with the city on seven hills.
